Jim & Rob's Fresh Grill

In Ojai last weekend we needed to find a place to grab a quick bite before visiting some new friends. Unfamiliar with the local restaurant scene, we chose a place that we knew had indoor seating (it was hot outside) and good taquitos.

Jim & Rob's Fresh Grill recently moved from a semi-outdoor shack attached to a seafood restaurant into a spanking new strip mall space with excellent air conditioning. The move turned the grill from a roadside shack into a full fledged local restaurant.

There is plenty of parking in the area of town where the restaurant is because it's not right next to everything else, but still in walking distance from downtown if you were so inclined. This is the kind of place where you order at the counter, get a number, and sit down at one of the tables and wait for your food.

There is a salsa bar with four different salsas. The salsas were pretty different from each other. There was a habenero salsa that I expected to be very spicy, but in fact it had a very light kick. (to me, it might be hot to you if you don't eat hot spicy food often)

Two of us ordered tacos and our other diner ordered a taco salad. The food came quickly and was piping hot. I was glad for the salsa bar because my taco needed more flavor. I wanted to be more adventurous with my choice, but i just couldn't decide.

The people were really nice and the food was good--just not amazing. However, if you are in Ojai and you are looking for Mexican fare, this is only one of two choices, and the fastest of the two. While we were there, we saw on the menu a Barbecue Tri-Tip Burrito and wished we had seen it before we ordered. Intrigued, we made our own. I would go again if I were in the area and craving a taco.
