Fosselman's Ice Cream Parlor

Every summer articles plaster the airwaves about where you can get the best ice cream in any city. But don't wait for summer, just head over to Fosselman's for that old town feel and delicious ice cream.

I was introduced to Fosselman's on my first visit to Burbank in college. Sure, I've had ice cream from other places since, I've even made my own, but there is something about Fosselman's that I always want to come back to. The thing about Fosselman's is that it is out of the way. In the direct vicinity there are a couple of car dealers and a Target and a little big further there is a movie theater. Otherwise there isn't much, so when you go to Fosselman's, you go there and nowhere else.

But it's worth it.

Fosselman's is a full-service ice cream parlor. They don't stray much from their original trade of ice cream. There are a variety of flavors ranging from chocolate chip to cinnamon to taro. Even the classic flavors have a distinct creaminess that adds an extra flare to ice cream. They also have a variety of sorbets and yogurts for those that don't want to enjoy the full-bodied deliciousness of real ice cream.

I like to order the 3 scoop hot fudge sundae with three different ice cream flavors. My favorite flavor is cinnamon, but it is seasonal (around Christmas), so when that isn't available, I usually choose Cookies and Cream, Chocolate Chip, and Mocha Almond Fudge. The sundae is very large and you could share it if you wanted. I realize that the flavors I choose seem very normal, however, they are totally different than your average ice cream. The chocolate chip has a distinct vanilla flavor that makes the ice cream better than ever and instead of chips it is chocolate bits so that you don't hurt the roof of your mouth with bites.

It is clear that Fosselman's prides themselves on high quality ingredients while sticking to the roots of a classic ice cream parlor. You can order anything from a one scoop cone to a hot fudge sundae to an ice cream soda. They also have a selection of saltwater taffy and other candies. The store only takes cash but there is a Wells Fargo right next door if you're in a pinch.

So next time you're craving a special ice cream outing, do yourself a favor and head over to Fosselman's.
