Moat Mountain Smokehouse

It was Halloween Night and we were in the pitch-black darkness of North Conway, NH. We drove into the crowded but dark gravel parking lot. Across the lot near a car was a very tall man in a burlap suit. There was something wrong with his face. We hoped he wouldn't see us, we stayed in the car. Suddenly, the tall man was standing behind our car in such a way that we could not get out. The tall man walked over to the passenger side, he leaned over and through the window we could see his mangled 2-face. He beckoned us to come in, we told him to go away. The tall man opened the door and in a gravely voice invited us in for some bbq and a beer. With no choice but to exit our car, we raced toward the door as the tall man followed us. Once inside, we met with the other diners who laughed about the scary tall man, boy, was he having fun for Halloween! Cat Woman brought us to our table and became our waitress.

The tables we sat in were on a porch that is probably screened in the summer--but in North Conway in late October is warmed with heaters with a view of the parking lot (and we had an opportunity to keep an eye out for the Tall Man). The menu was vast but also expensive. As it turned out, though, the portions were gigantic so the cost was justified.

I ordered the Carolina Pulled Pork served with slaw and garlic mashed potatoes. I enjoyed mixing all the food together. The meat was good and the sauce was spicy. Joey ordered the Texas style brisket which seemed like it might have different sauce from the menu but it tasted the same. We were stuffed after our meal but I heard another couple raving about the cornbread. There is also a huge beer selection with specials like blueberry beer--but we didn't try them. If I happened to be in North Conway again, I'd head over to Moat Mountain...but not on Halloween, I hope to never meet the Tall Man again.
