Rocky Cola

Rocky Cola is a small local chain with 2 or 3 California locations. We went to the Montrose location on Saturday night for a late dinner. Rocky Cola is a typical 50's diner with a little bit of everything. And, it fits our schedules by being open late

We arrived sometime after 9 after debating dinner for a good 30 minutes. We were seated immediately, shortly after we sat down several groups came in. Because everyone knows it is open late you won't feel lonely if you go late as other groups will be there.

My major complaint about Rocky Cola is that the water has a weird taste to it, perhaps that is how the tap water is in Montrose? So, it is in your best interest to order a drink--but there are LOTS to choose from. They make excellent shakes. They also have a variety of fountain drinks. If you order cherry coke, they mix in the cherry separately so you could even get cherry sprite if you wanted.

They have a dessert menu, a regular menu, and a health menu. The health menu has some salads and lighter meals. The dessert menu has several choices of large desserts as well as shakes and and ice cream. The regular menu has a large selection of appetizers, diner food, and breakfast which is served all day.

We ordered and had our meals within 10-12 minutes. It was incredibly fast! I had the full order of buffalo chicken wings and a chocolate peanut butter shake. This is my favorite shake because they use a glob of real creamy peanut butter in it! The shake is thick enough for texture but easy to drink. The shake comes with a half full metal can. There is enough shake for 2, unless you're really greedy.

The chicken wings are relatively spicy and come with a blue cheese dipping sauce--but the ranch is much better and they will gladly replace it or perhaps give you extra sauce. The wings come only with celery and carrot sticks but it is listed as an appetizer.

The BLTA there is very good and the avacado is generally very ripe--even though the tomatoes aren't always the best. Other people at my table got the turkey dip, the 2x2x2 breakfast and the chili and salad and there were no complaints.

The food is good, the atmosphere is fun, and the staff is friendly--if you are looking for a family or kid friendly place to go for dinner or a late snack or dessert, this is the place to go.

I would give Rocky Cola a 2.5, as the food is ok.

You are greedy with that shake...
