Pinocchio Italian Restaurant

Last weekend we had lunch at the Pinocchio Italian Restaurant which is attached to the Monte Carlo Italian Deli in Burbank. I have been to the restaurant before as well as the deli but it has been a long time.

There is plenty of parking on the street and a mildly large lot on the side. This is true Italian, folks, so you can have lunch, finish it off with a scoop of gelato, and then get some Italian groceries for dinner or the rest of the week.

There is a full deli (where you can get cheese, meat, olives, and a variety of other Italian foods), bakery with both sweets and bread, a variety of imported canned and packaged goods as well as a large refrigerated/freezer section with fresh pasta and pizza dough.

It was lunch, so I didn't feel like anything too heavy like Lasagna or chicken parmesan. In fact, it was hot out so I wanted something cold. I decided on the roast beef and swiss sandwich with everything. I want to point out here that I didn't know what "everything" entailed, but I thought it sounded good anyway.

It was a great choice. Everything included, cheese, mustard, mayo (I'd omit this next time) and some delicious marinated chopped tomatoes. The tomatoes really made the sandwich, but the rest didn't hurt it. The roast beef was thickly sliced, the bread was fresh. It was a great sandwich, I would go back for it, even call it by name!

Other diners in my party sampled the chicken parmesan--not as good as excepted, and a plain ham and turkey sandwich that was good but, again, no tomatoes? How could you even call it Monte Carlo material?

I think I normally get the Monte Carlo Combination sandwich. I forgot what's in it, but it's good and I'm pretty sure it has the tomatoes in it. It's like two blocks away from my Mom's house, she usually goes with the Roast Beef. And you can't go wrong with the Ham and Cheese. They have really good bread, sausage, and cheese in the deli. Good stuff.
