My parents took me to breakfast at the Ojai Cafe Emporium, a cafe lovingly referred to as "The Emporium" by Ojai locals. The restaurant is known for both its front coffee shop and back restaurant that serves all the breakfast favorites as well as sandwiches and salads.
The coffee shop in front is very quaint. The locals usually walk over for coffee--but sometimes you see the occasional horse tied up in front. There is a patio out front with a couple of tables. If you get your coffee to stay it comes in large ceramic mugs and people stay to enjoy it. The Ojai lifestyle is slow and relaxed compared to big city life in LA.
I decided to order hot chocolate to go with my breakfast. The chocolate came in a large bowl-like cup with whipped cream. It was delicious, except the plethora of whipped cream cooled it down a little too quickly.
The service inside the Emporium is country-polite. The waitresses are nice and fast and friendly. My parents even knew our waitress since they frequent the Emporium. I ordered the Tahoe Omelet and found that is was a little bland, but luckily they had a couple of bottles of hot sauce on the table. After dousing my dish with hot sauce I found the dish to be a lot more delicious. All the other breakfast items look good too. I think since there are not that many restaurants in Ojai, this one wins out for breakfast. It is a very comfortable place to go and sit and eat a little.
Whether you go to the Emporium for breakfast or just for coffee and a scone, relax a while and take it all in, just like the locals do.
